Love is moonlight. Love is dewdrops. Love is the happily-ever- after promise.
But where is the woman as lover? What happens when she demands and seduces? Does love
take up a new shape when she claims she is the lover? When she dances, spins in love, when
blood rushes even to her fingertips and she declares her love unashamed, through an untamed
body, through the serene poetry of her soul?
When we read Rabindranath Thakur, we generally do not talk about this passionate feminine
energy of love in his writings. Here, we relive some women as they desired passionately,
spoke and acted like there was no going back. These women challenged and changed the
known domestic and the unknown horizon beyond with their capability to fall in love. Trying
to slot them in regular everyday lives can be an unnerving or at the very least, an
uncomfortable puzzle. In this collection, we want to speak in the voice of women whose love
was subversive enough to unsettle the regularity of a secure life. We journey through
Rabindranath’s creations - from short story to play, from novel to dance-drama – coming
back over and over again to his songs, to bring out the voice and realization of women in
love, their anxiety and desperation, their failure and frustration, their passion, and some
times, even the rare fulfillment.
