Prof. Tora Basu was for a long period under the tutelage of Sangitacharya the late Tarapada Chakraborty, a legendary classical vocalist of India and his justly renowned son Pandit Manas Chakraborty.

Sm. Tora Basu is also a senior disciple of Pandit Chandidas Mal, who is one of the leading exponents of “Puratani Sangit” of Bengal .

Being enriched by training both in classical and in Puratani Sangeet Sm. Basu has made an attempt to establish in her own way the fact that Toppa of the Bengali variety is neither purely a Khayal nor a Thumrie but a special type of song an amalgamation of melody, lyric, emotion, imagination and style presented in the stream of classical music.

The 11 songs of this CD consist of well-known Tappas, 1 Shyama Sangit and 2 songs from the theatre.
