by Arpita Majumder
Born in the musically rich, heritage driven city of Kolkata, Arpita hails from a family that ushered her into the world of Hindustani Classical Music from a very tender age. Her mother Smt. Jayasree Das a vocalist herself, laid the foundation of Arpita’s musical journey. Her initial training started under Smt. Chandana Chakraborty and after that she was guided under the tutelage of the doyen of Benaras Gharana, Padmabhushan Smt. Girija Devi. Years of highly supervised guidance and blessings from her Guru put Arpita where she started appearing in public concerts with her Guru and also her own solo recitals rendering Kheyal, Tappa, Thumri, Dadra, Holi, Chaiti, Kajri, Bhajans and other forms of Indian Classical and Semi-Classical Music. A Master holder in Economics, Arpita has appeared in many concerts in India and in USA.
