Despite her brilliant academic background, a first class graduate and post graduate in Geography from University of Calcutta, Suranjana has chosen to devote herself to classical music with an equally remarkable musical career. An 'A' grade artist of All India Radio and TV she has had the privilege of being disciple of Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Meera Banerjee of Patiala Gharana and the doyen of thumri Dr. Girija Debi of Benaras Gharana.

Suranjana performed in National Programme of Music from AIR, chain concerts, CPC programmes and various classical concerts in India and abroad. In 1996 she visited UK in 'Banga Sammelan' and USA in 2004. She conducted 'Sangeet Shikhkhar Ashar' from AIR, and workshops in Bharatiya Bidya Bhavan (UK), Augustina College (USA) and different schools of UK and USA.

Her melodious voice is expressed very beautifully in Raga Todi, Khamaj Thumri, Dadra & Chaiti – the selected items of this album. She is accompanied by Ramesh Mishra in Sarengi, Soumen Sarkar in tabla & Krishnakali Dutta in harmoniuml.

Bengali Modern Songs, raga–based creations of Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty & Arun Bhaduri have taken shape, very beautifully, in the voice of Smt. Suranjana Basu. Her sweet melodious voice, gives a proof of her good ‘talim' from Pt. Prasun Bandopadhyay & Meera Bandopadhyay, & eminent singer of Banaras Gharana, Dr. Girija Devi.
