Pandit Sujit Saha, who has excelled himself as one of the foremost Percussionist of India, was born into a reputed family of musicians.His father Late Gounranga Saha, a well-known vocalist, inspired his talented son to persue a career in the highest traditions of Hindustani Music. Thereafter, he blossomed into a mature and sensitive musician under the guidance of Sri Jugal Sarkar and Sri Amalesh Chatterjee. He studied the nuances of his art from maestros like the Late Ustad Keramutullah Khan and the late Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Today, Pt. Sujit Saha has earned himself a place of honour in the realm of Indian Classical Music and has been the proud recipient of a number of prestigious awards such as Gold Medal in the "Sangeet Praveen" (Master of Music) from the Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad. He has also had the rare distinction of accompanying such internationally acclaimed artistes as Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Jashraj, Pt. A. Kanan, Smt. Girija Devi, Pt. V. G. Jog, Pt. V. Balsara, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Amiya R. Banerjee, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Smt. Malabika Kanan, Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Pt. Provakar Karekar, Pt. Manas Chakraborty, Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain, Pt. Dinanath Mishra & many others, at concerts in India & abroad and at various festivals of India, accross the globe. An 'A' grade artiste of AIR Kolkata, Sri Saha performs regularly over Television, the National Programme of Music & at Radio Sangeet Sammelans. In most of his audio, LPs and CDs he has accompanied renowned artistes, while his solo tabla performance on his cassette titled - “The Magic Touch”, has been widely acclaimed. Wherever he has performed, he has won rare reviews and recognition for an art, which he has diligently pursued and mastered with great dexterity, sensitivity and deep devotion.
