Coming from a music loving family, Shirin Sengupta (Nath) was initiated to music by her parents Shri Ramani Mohan Nath & Smt. Sunanda Nath. Shirin showed remarkable talent & her desire to learn music seriously brought her to Sangeet Research academy. Veteran Guru Pandit Arun Bhaduri gave her special training.
As an A-grade scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy Kolkata since 1996 Shirin’s musical journey took a new turn when she was picked up to learn the intricacies of Agra-Jaipur-Gwalior-Gharana from its best performer of the present generation Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar.
A topper in BA Honours (Music) from Rabindra Bharati University, “Sangeet Visharad” from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh & National Scholarship holder in music. President’s Award, Jadu Bhatta Award, Amir Khan Award, Pandit Girija Sankar Chakravarty Award & Dagar Brother’s Award - all prove her versatility as Kheyal, Dhrupad, Dhamar, Bhajan & Ragpradhan singer. She stood first in All India Radio Competition and broadcasts Kheyal, Ragpradhan & Nazrulgeeti.
Since in her teens Shirin has performed in major music festivals in India, U.S.A, Canada & in European countries including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Danemark & France. She has 3 CDs (Indian Classical Vocals) released at her credit. Married to young sarode player & music composer Ranajit Sengupta, Shirin’s world is full of music.
