Rano Guha Thakurta, second son of late Suva Guha Thakurta late Manjula Guha Thakurta was born in a illustrious and revered musical family on Januray 2- 1948. A Graduate from St. Xaviers College Calcutta University, Rano learnt Rabindra Sangeet form Dakshinee and obtained a Diploma with honours in 1969, Thereafter, as far as Rabindra Sangeet is concerned he had ony one teacher in his life and that was his father late Suva Guha Thakurta ,in between he had a short stint in Indian Classical Music training under late Sukhendu Goswami. Rano has started his musical career with a bang while performing for Dakshinee's numerous soirees.His first radio programme was broadcasted in the year 1970, by virtue of which he came into limelight and since then he has never looked back .In last six decades Rano has cut disk records, cassettes and as well as International CD's and all of which bear the touch of rare class and quality. Over the years he has been acclaimed as a classical exponent of Rabindra Sangeet and through his style and prowess in singing he has cut a niche for himself in musical fraternity of the world .His numerous soirees and functions during the last 35 years , by virtue of his distinctive style and gayaki has elevated him to perfection where melody, tune and rhythm and expression lie juxtaposed . Innumerable admirers and fans from all walks of life have always inspired him through out his life. It also speaks volumes of Rano's command over the cross section of cache in Rabindra Sangeet. As a consequence Rano is regarded as one of his kind in the world of Rabindra Sangeet.
For the last 35 years, Rano has been imparting lessons in Rabindra Sangeet to numerous students and some of themhave already established themselves as singer par excellence.Rano has principally devoted his time towards teaching Rabindra Sangeet and till date,he has tutored over 1000 students and singers .He is very much in teaching faculty Dakshinee also ,Rano has performed in many cities of the world, including many in India .
