Ranajit’s musical passion began with Mandolin and performed for AIR at the age of six. His first record on Light Instrumental Music (Mandolin) released by INRECO (Hindusthan Records) in 1979. In 1987, Ranajit switched over to Sarode (String Instrument) under the tutelage of Late Ustad Dhyanesh Khan, followed by advanced training under Sarode maestro Ustad Aashish Khan. He also participated in many workshops conducted by Living Legend Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Ranajit has obtained his Graduation & Master degree in Music from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata Securing 1st Position.


Enlisted lecturer (NET Qualified) for Indian Universities by the Government of India (UGC) since 1993. Invited as Visiting Lecturer for the Summer Semester at lthe Hamburg University, Germany, 1999. He has been awarded with, President’s Award, 1989, National Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture in 1989. First Position in All India Radio Competition in 1989, “Allauddin Memorial Award”, 1993 “Nikhil Banerjee Memorial” Award, 1991, “Best Talent of The Year, 1991-92 by HMV. Ranajit has Composed music for a Dutch Feature Film “Dark Amsterdam” & Composed Theme Music for International Film Festival Held in Calcutta in 1994. Besides being an “A” grade Sarode Player of All India Radio since 1994, Ranajit has been touring extensively in the United States of America, Canada & various European countries includes Germany, France, England, Scotland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Italy, Russia,Denmark, Estonia, Belgium, Croatia and the Caribbean Islands for concerts, lectures and workshops. Represented India in International Music Festivals in Paris, Hamburg, Martinique, Tallinn, Zagreb etc.


Delivered Lecture at the Regensburg University, Germany, 1998. Ranajit delivered Lectures at A & M University, Alabama, USA & University of Alberta, Canada in 2005.He participated in “Musica Sacra” in Germany in 2000 “Indian Music Festival in Bern, Swizerland, 2002, “Jazz Swing & Blues” in Austria, 2004, Banga Mela and Rabindra mela in USA (2003-2004), Banga Sanskriti Sammelan in U.K. (2002-2003).Ranajit has got 15 CD releases worldwide from India, USA, Holland & Germany.
