Purnima Choudhuri is one of the most popular exponents of Thumri, representing Benaras Gharana, of the present era. With her ethereal tonal structure, emotional delicacies and rythemic pattering, she almost captivates the listeners. She was natural with all care and attention by Pt. Mahadev Prasad Mishra in singing Thumri, Dadra, Hori, Chaity, Kajri, Tappa etc. in Benarasi style. Before that she had an intensive training of Khayal by Pt. A. Kanan. Also she received a valuable guidance from Padmabhusan Girija Devi.
A Top grade artist of Akashvani and Doordashan Purnima Chaudhury has participated in numerous prestigious concerts in the country and abroad. And is a winner of many awards of repute.
