At the age of seven her music career started under her maternal uncle late Kumadeswar Mukherjee . After his death she started learning from late Usha Ranjan Mukherjee. She then came in contact with Pandit V.G.Jog and became his disciple after demise of Usha Ranjan Mukherjee. Jogji personally took her to Pandit A.Kanan who remained her guru upto his last days. She use to visit Bidushi Purnima Chowdhury for specialization in thumri . In recent times she takes lesson from Pandit Aloke Chatterjee for fine tuning her knowledge on classical music .
At her young age she participated in various music competitions such as Tansen Music, Murari Smriti intercolligiate music competion etc and adjudged as a best performer and won many trophys. She participated in various music conferences and was acclaimed for her presentation. Graduate from Calcutta university Maitreyee is a professional and renowned painter,who was awarded in all All India Womens Exhibition and received appreciation from artist and Art critics.
