Gauri Guha, an acclaimed Indian classical singer, started her training at a very early age. She obtained first class in Sangeet Visharad, (Bachelor of Music), from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow, India. She obtained an M.A. degree in Bengali literature from Jadavpur University, India.
She received her training from the famous Indian Classical artiste Pt. A Kanan, and continued to be a regular artiste of All India Radio & Televison till she migrated to Canada in 1982 to accept a position of a Music Teacher. She was sent by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Govt. of India as Cultural Officer/Music Teacher to Georgetown, Guyana, South America for three years (1977-1980).
In 1992-93 & 2002-03 Gauri was awarded a senior fellowship by Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Calgary to receive further training at Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata under the guidance of Pandit A. Kanan and Smt. Malabika Kanan and Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, respectively. During this period she went through an extensive training programme, and travelled across India for numerous prestigious classical concerts and workshops.
Gauri is a regular teacher at Sangeet Academy, Brussels Belgium & at MDO- Toronto Tabla Ensemble. Recently she performed in the movie “The Hindu Tomb” at Lille Festival, France. A Cd titled “Bombaysers De Lille 3000” was released in the festival.
Gauri was awarded many prestigious grants by the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for further studies in music and for performances. She performs extensively in the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, the Carribean and India. In spite of her passion and total commitment to music, Gauri holds a senior management position at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Canada.
