by Pt. Dinanth Mishra
Pandit Dinanath Mishra was born in 1943 in Azamgarh, U.P. He comes from a family where music is a way of life. At the age of five he was first exposed to musical training by his mother. After that, his formal training began under the strict and loving guidance of his father and guru, Pandit Rakhal Misra, who was a torchbearer of Sangeetacharya Pandit Sukhdeo Maharaj of Banaras Gharana.
He was also quite influenced by the style of Sangeetacharya Chinmoy Lahiri of Lucknow, and later went on to receive extensive taleem from him for many years in Khayal and Thumri and emerged as an established artist with a style, which unmistakably, is his own. Pandit Mishra is gifted with a voice that has an amazing range and unlimited sweetness. His expositions are significantly chaste with matchless beauty and craftsmanship in developing the Ragas with fantastic elasticity, embellished with Barhats, Murkiis, Khatkas and graceful Taans. Panditji's personality is Gayaki bound which shows itself with equal brilliance in Khayals, Taranas and Thumris. Panditji has composed a number of Bandishes of Khayals, Thumris and Dadras. Panditji has also been recognised as a Top Grade artist in All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has participated in National Programme of Music of A.I. R and Doordarshan, and various Radio Sangeet Sammelans.
Panditji was honored by the title 'Surmani' from Sursringer Samsad of Bombay and Honored 'Sangit Ratna', from Calcutta and has also visited Germany, Spain and U.K in 2005.
