Abdul Rsheed Khan Saheb is the senior most performing artist of Hindustani Classical Music in great tradition of Mian Tansen. He was born in 1908 in a family of great musician tracing back to the great exponent of Gwalior gayaki , Ustad Behram Khan . His initial grooming was by his father and uncle Bade Yousuf Khan Sahib. He is equally versatile in presentation of Khayal, Dhrupad, Dhamar, Thumri etc.His delineation is attatractive based with purity of raga and all performace are always embellished with melodic and rhythmic excellence.
The special features of Khan Shahib's gayaki are his resonant and deep mellow voice with comendable control and resilence over three octaves,even at his age over hundred.
He is excellent composer under pen name "RASAN PIYA" creating more than two thousand compositions rich with lyrics of literacy value. Some of his valued composition have been recorded by world famous B.B.C London and Iraq radio and more than 1500 compositions have been recorded and preserved by U.P Sangeet Natak Academy, Lucknow and ITC Sangeet Research Academy , Kolkata.
For last several decades he sang on Akshvani and Doordarshan ,Lucknow. He participated in SadaRang Music conference, Lucknow Mahautsav, Dover Lane Music Conference, ITC Sangeet Sammelan,Prayag Sangeet Sammelan all over India and felicitated by U.P. Sangeet Natak Academy Award (1981).Banaras Hindu University (1993), EZCC and Press Club Kolkata.
He has recieved many awards including Natak Sangeet Academy Award (1991), ITC awards (1994), Kashi Swar Ganga Award(2003) and he is redipient of so many titles like "Sangeet Maharishi", "Sangeet Sartaz", "Ras Sagar" and "Bandish samrat". In 2008 he was confered "Sangeet Samman" by the Dover Lane Music Conference.
He has trained numerous student in his lifetime and serves as a guru at ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
